Privacy notice
This notice explains what personal information this site collects, why, how long we keep it and what you can do about it. It is written for an Australian audience and follows the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
1. Who we are
Vantrellis is a small research practice at Level 8, 361 La Trobe Street, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia, operating blindreactions.com. Privacy enquiries: privacy@blindreactions.com.
Many small businesses in Australia fall below the turnover threshold at which the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) applies automatically. Whether or not that exemption applies to us in a given year, we have chosen to handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles, and this notice describes what we actually do.
2. What we collect
- What you send us. If you use the contact form or email the desk: your name, email address, an optional phone number, the market you selected, the reason for contacting us and the message itself.
- Technical information. Our web server keeps standard access logs: IP address, date and time, the page requested, HTTP status, referring page and browser user agent.
- A browser storage item. One entry recording your response to the cookie notice. See the cookie notice.
We do not collect sensitive information as that term is used in the Privacy Act, we do not ask for financial or identity documents, and we have no user accounts or logins.
Please read this before using the form. The contact form submits using the HTTP GET method. That means the details you type appear in the web address of the confirmation page, may be stored in your browser history, and are recorded in our web server's access logs. It is a deliberately simple, database-free arrangement — but it means you should not put confidential information, financial details, identity numbers or anything you would not want written in a log file into this form. For anything sensitive, email the desk directly.
3. Why we collect it
- To reply to your message and, where relevant, to follow up on it.
- To decide which explainers to write next, in aggregate.
- To keep the site secure and operating, and to diagnose faults.
- To meet any legal obligation that applies to us.
We do not use your details for marketing. We do not send newsletters, and we do not send commercial electronic messages of the kind regulated by the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with developers, agents, brokers, lenders or advertisers — ever. Information is disclosed only to:
- our hosting provider, which operates the server on which this site runs;
- our email provider, in order to receive and answer your message;
- a person or body to whom we are required by law to disclose it.
Our hosting and email providers may store or process data outside Australia. Where that is the case, we take reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that the recipient handles the information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
5. Third-party requests made by your browser
This site loads its typefaces and its icon set from two content delivery networks. When your browser requests those files, the operators of those networks receive your IP address and standard request information, as they would for any site using them. We have no other relationship with them, they receive nothing you type on this site, and we run no advertising or analytics services of any kind.
6. How long we keep it
- Correspondence: up to 24 months from our last exchange, then deleted.
- Server access logs: a rolling period of up to 12 months.
- The browser storage item: until you clear your browser storage.
7. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to the server and to the desk mailbox is restricted to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure; if a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will act in accordance with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme and notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
8. Access, correction and complaints
You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to privacy@blindreactions.com. We will respond within 30 days. There is no charge.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled a privacy matter, tell us first so we can try to fix it. If you remain dissatisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the national privacy regulator.
9. Children
This site is written for adults making property decisions and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
10. Changes to this notice
If this notice changes, the revised version will appear here with a new date at the top. We do not apply changes retrospectively to information already collected.
